2026 Conference Abstract FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Who can submit an abstract?
Anyone conducting or contributing to VET-related research is welcome. You don’t need to work at a university to present at AVETRA.

2. What types of research are accepted?
AVETRA welcomes both applied and theoretical (or conceptual) research.

      • Applied research focuses on practical problems in real-world contexts.
      • Theoretical research develops frameworks, models, or critiques that extend understanding of VET systems, policies, or practices.

3. Do I need to have completed my research?
No. Early-stage, ongoing, or planned studies are welcome.

4. What if my project is small or local?
That’s fine. Smaller studies often provide deep insights into practice. AVETRA values all research that contributes to improving understanding and delivery of VET.

5. What is required for ethical approval?
All presentations must comply with AVETRA's Code of Practice. If your study involves collecting data from human participants (e.g. teachers, students, employers), ethical clearance from the relevant organisation is required, and presentations must confirm informed consent and participant confidentiality. If unsure, please contact us at avetra@avetra.org.au.

6. Can I co-present with others?
Yes. Collaborative presentations are encouraged, particularly for cross-institutional, industry–education, or interdisciplinary projects.

7. Are there opportunities for new researchers?
Yes. AVETRA provides mentoring and feedback for new presenters and recognises developing researchers through awards and support opportunities.

8. Do I still have to pay to attend if I’m presenting?

Yes. As a research conference, AVETRA follows the standard practice that all presenters also register and pay the relevant fees. This ensures the sustainability of the event and fosters active participation within the VET research community.

9. Can I present virtually?

We are unable to accept virtual presentations as this is an in-person conference.

10. Can I submit multiple abstracts?

Yes. You can submit multiple abstracts for different presentation or workshop topics.
