AVETRA Conference Update

Mon, 17 Aug 2020

As you are aware, our 2020 Annual Conference was postponed due to COVID-19. In light of the current situation in Victoria, the AVETRA Executive has agreed it is not feasible to hold the face-to-face conference as planned. Instead, we will hold an online conference in April 2021, with our next face-to-face conference scheduled for 2022 in Melbourne. Give the quality work that went into the 2020 conference program, we’ll make it the basis of our planning for the 2021 and 2022 conferences.

What does this mean for those who registered for the 2020 conference?

Your registration will remain current for both the 2021 online conference AND the 2022 face-to-face conference. Your registration will be honoured regardless of fees set for the online conference and possible registration increases for the 2022 conference. If you would prefer a refund instead, please get in touch with the secretariat who will process that for you. Forward your request via email to the AVETRA Secretariat: avetra@theassociationspecialists.com.au

What does this mean for those who had an abstract accepted for presentation at the 2020 conference?

You will be invited to make that presentation at either the 2021 or 2022 conference. If you wish to withdraw your abstract and present elsewhere, that is quite OK. Please contact Steven Hodge via email to discuss: s.hodge@griffith.edu.au

What does this mean for those who have a peer-reviewed paper accepted for the 2020 conference?

We are investigating the option of publishing these papers in the International Journal of Training Research (AVETRA’s journal published by Taylor & Francis). Of course, if you prefer to submit your paper to a different journal that’s fine too. Please contact Steven Hodge (s.hodge@griffith.edu.au) to discuss what you would like to do.

Next steps…

Steven Hodge is the interim convenor for both the 2021 and 2022 conferences until organising committees are finalised. He is also the primary contact for all matters relating to the now postponed 2020 conference. Please contact Steven with any questions relating to the decisions outlined above. The executive will be in touch as soon as details start to firm up in relation to the 2021 and 2022 conferences.

In the meantime, please look out for:

  • A call for OctoberVET 2020 event proposals
  • Early Career & Emerging VET Researcher Webinars
  • A call for Research Today contributions
  • Plans for the 2021 AGM
